Relate is a national charity that exists to promote healthy relationships. In the UK, Relate is the largest provider of couple counselling and sex therapy and also has highly respected family counselling and young people services.

Relate offers a whole range of resources and services to help support people who want to make their relationships better.

In BFG, Relate services include:

  • Relationship Counselling (individuals, couples, same-sex couples)
  • Relationship Advice
  • Sex Therapy
  • Relate Family Counselling
  • Mediation
  • Services for Young People

Confidentiality:

Counselling is a private and confidential form of help. Relate holds information about its clients and their counselling in confidence.

We will not give your name or any information about you to anyone outside the organisation unless there is an exceptional circumstance, for example, if someone, especially a child, is at risk of serious harm. In such a situation we would try to involve you in making the decision about any action to be taken.

Relate is an independent organisation. We do not share information with the chain of command, health professionals or any other welfare agencies.

Costs:

In the UK, you normally pay a fee to cover the cost of the sessions, however, in BFG, all your costs are covered by the MoD so the service is entirely free.

Eligibility:
Relate BFG can support individuals, couples (including same-sex couples), and young people. Relate services are offered free of charge to all those attached to the British military within BFG. Serving personnel, (including foreign and commonwealth), dependents, UKBCs and the employees of other support agencies (eg SSAFA, SCE, NAAFI etc) are eligible for support.

Who can refer?

Relate BFG works closely with other welfare organisations to ensure that they are aware of the full range of services we offer. Whilst we are happy for other agencies to pass our contact details on, clients must make contact with us direct.

Our counsellors
All our counsellors have received special training in couple counselling. It takes two-three years to become a fully qualified Relate Counsellor. They undergo further training to specialise in areas such as family counselling and sex therapy.

‘Counsellors-in-training’ have gone through a rigorous selection and training process and will be receiving close professional support.

All counsellors continue with ongoing training and consultation with other professionals to ensure that they give you the highest standard of counselling.

Locations:

Relate BFG has counsellors based throughout Germany and has private counselling rooms at most garrisons. It may also be possible to receive telephone counselling.
