12.08.10 – 15.08.10 – Munster

Tournament of Champions.  Riding and show-jumping event.  European, world and Olympia champions are coming to battle for victories and rankings. Hot-air Ballooning.  Enjoy that feeling of freedom and experience a sense of community at a dizzy height. The visitors to this year's Hot-air Ballooning can get a taste of this. May 15th – October 3rd 2010 – Oberammergau (1hr south of Munich)

Oberammergau Passion Play - When the plague hit the Bavarian village of Oberammergau in the 17th century, its inhabitants vowed that they would perform the Passion Play every ten years, if the disease would spare them. It did, and the villagers kept their word: Once in a decade, Oberammergau produces the Passion Play. Over 2000 villagers take part in this extraordinary cultural event, which is set on an open-air stage with the German Alps as an impressive backdrop.

31st July – 7th August – Cologne (Koln)

Gay Games in Cologne.  Some 12,000 participants from more than 70 countries compete in 34 disciplines from beach volleyball, and martial arts to chess, and figure skating. Many cultural events, parties, and a summer carnival are organized alongside the sports competitions.
Homosexual or heterosexual, beginner or pro - the Gay Games are open to anybody who wants to participate.

Middle of August 2010 – Dresden

City Festival Dresden - During the summer months, almost every German city organizes a city festival ("Stadtfest"). Locals of all ages enjoy open-air concerts, fun rides, fire works, and lots of food and drink in the heart of their city. It is a great experience for travellers to take part in these (free) festivities and to soak up some local flavor.
Dresden’s Stadtfest is especially worth visiting: It is celebrated in the charming Baroque Old Town.

25th July – 28th August – Festspielhaus, Bayreuth

Richard Wagner Festival.  With this annual musical festival, the Bavarian town of Bayreuth pays tribute to the 19th-century German composer Richard Wagner. The world's largest Wagner Festival has been sold out since 1876, and Wagner fans get their tickets years in advance to enjoy some of the composer's best operas, from The Ring Cycle, to Parsifal. They are performed in a specially designed opera house, the Festspielhaus, which was built under Wagner's supervision.

27th August – 29th August – Schaumainkai, Frankfurt

Open-air Art Festival - Frankfurt celebrates its annual open-air art festival along the banks of the river Main. Running through the city’s center, the river is lined on both sides by some of best museums in the country. During the "Museum Embankment Festival", you can enjoy special exhibitions, open-air theater, concerts, readings, and fireworks.

30th July – 29th August – Heiligengeistfeld, city center of Hamburg

DOM Festival in Hamburg.  Since the 14th century, Hamburg celebrates the DOM, one of the largest open-air fun fairs in the North of Germany. Bring the whole family for ferries wheels, roller coaster, concerts, and fireworks.

End of August 2010 – Berlin

Festival of Jewish Culture in Berlin - The annual "Jewish Culture Days" is the largest festival in Germany dedicated to Jewish life, art and history. In its 24th year, the Berlin festival presents concerts, exhibitions, readings, and architectural tours; venues are the fantastic Jewish Museum, which was designed by Daniel Libeskind, and various synagogues throughout Berlin.

25th August – 5th September 2010 – City Centre, Stuttgart

Wine Festival - Wine aficionados can raise their glass in the city of Stuttgart, which hosts one of the largest and best wine festivals in Germany. Located in the Neckar wine region, Stuttgart is proud to have a 1000-year old viniculture. Its wine festival attracts more than a million wine connoisseurs, who can sample Swabian specialties and try 250 regional wines, including Trollinger, Riesling, Kerner, Müller-Thurgau.

August – September 2010 – Iffezheim, Baden Baden

International Horse Racing - Fast Horses and big hats: The international horse racing in Iffezheim, Baden Baden, close to the Black Forest, celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2009. Besides daily races, you can look forward to open-air concerts and special events; a special treat are the race courts breakfasts, where you can start your day on the race terraces while watching the horses getting ready for their race.
