The City of Peace

Osnabrück is the City of Peace and the third largest city in Lower Saxony. There’s always a lot going on in Osnabrück. Whether it’s the spring and autumn fairs or the May week, when the city transforms itself into a gigantic open-air festival. The Christmas fair also offers lots of shopping with plenty food and drink to take away the winter chill.
There are wonderful views in and around the city that can be enjoyed on foot, bike or horseback.

Osnabrück has a large network of hiking routes, 2,200km of cycle paths and attractive bridleways for the public. The city park opened in 1835 is one of the oldest parks in Northern Germany. Opposite it is the Zoo, which is home to over 300 species of animals with the Planetarium and Museum for Nature and Environment located right next to it.

The Osnabrück Tourist-Information Office is open Monday to Friday from 9.30 to18:00 Hr and Saturday from 10:00 until 16:00 Hr.

Schools: Due to the Garrison drawdown, as of September 2008 all school children aged 4-8 from any quartering area will attend Marlborough School. Children aged 8- 13 years from all quarter areas attend Derby Middle School. Children over 13 years will attend Prince Rupert School (Rinteln) as weekly boarders.

There are two HIVES in Osnabrück:
Dodesheide HIVE is on Imphal/Mercer Barracks; this is in close proximity to Dodesheide and Kleine Moscow quartering areas. Roberts Barracks is also near by.

Woolwich HIVE is located on Woolwich Barracks, which is opposite Belfast Bks. The nearest quartering areas are Kleine London and Vosskamp.

Note: When posted to Osnabrück the barracks where a soldier works does not determine which quartering area in which you will live, however, Garrison Transport is provided for soldiers and dependants to access all barracks and amenities within the Garrison.
