Naples Hive Newsletter – Summer 2010

The HIVE has been kept busy all year with a rise in customer enquiries being recorded on our statistics, since last year and we have been working hard during our research trips on Wednesday mornings to bring our information sheets up to date and these are now ready to be published.

HIVE information Sheets (HIS) will be appearing in folders at JFC (in the Education Centre, Med Centre and the information point in the landing at the unit) and at the HIVE over the next few weeks so you can collect a copy of the information relevant to you on topics such as , Motoring, Security, Shopping and Pets.
We’ve also been busy opening up the coffee shop so you can call in for a chat with us and help yourself to a coffee or soft drink from the coffee lounge then relax for a few minutes in the lounge and watch TV or sit on the balcony, which overlooks the BCC pool and take some sun.

The beaches are open for business and have been cleaned and smartened up for all to enjoy.  Remember generally there are charges for using the beaches which range from €5 to €20 per day and also that the main roads that lead to the beach can get very busy, especially at weekends.  The Italian Air Force beach at Capo Miseno beach is also open and although you have to pay a charge to access this beach, you can claim this back from the Morale & Welfare Association (MWA) at JFC and they will even subsidise your pizza if you keep your receipt! 

The HIVE has a special campaign to help you to “stay safe in the sun” so come in and check out the display board for some useful tips.  You might also be interested to hear that the Avon Skin so Soft range of products is proving a rather effective insect repellent as it contains citronella – it is even being issued to the troops out in Afghanistan!  There is an Avon Catalogue in the HIVE Coffee Lounge that you can use to place an order and also new selection of Phoenix greeting cards should you need them.
The British Community Centre is under new management with a new OIC in post and the pool is now opening every day for the summer season.   There are still some issues to resolve and community feedback is important to the BCC Committee.  Your HIOs have agreed to act as a liaison between the BCC and the Community, so if you would like to talk to us about the BCC, you can just give us a call or pop in.  It is your community centre and you need to use it or lose it but the committee would like to be sure everyone benefits from the centre.  Details of opening times and events and a whole lot more can be found in the forums page of the Britannia in Italia website.

As the school holidays are almost upon us we have produced a “Days out with Children” guide so just come in and get a copy to make sure you get the most our of the summer holidays with the kids.
We’d like to wish you all a long and happy summer but ask you to stay safe and respect the sun! It’s going to be hot, hot, hot!
