Becoming a Brownie
A girl can become a Brownie if she is aged 7 – 10 years.

Welcome Pack
A welcome pack is given to all new Brownies when they join. (At their first or second meeting). The pack contains the booklet “Becoming a Brownie”, which is a fun activity book introducing the girl to Brownies and containing the Brownie Story. Other pack contents vary from unit to unit.
Brownie Wear
A Brownie chooses her outfit from a range of Brownie wear, which can be purchased from the Guide Shop at JHQ (if you live further afield, your Brownie Guider will place a mail order for you). The specially designed Brownie clothes are stylish, practical, economical and fun for today’s girls.
The Brownie Promise
New Brownies generally take their promise about six weeks after enrollment:
I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people
and
To keep the Brownie Guide Law.
A Brownie can choose where she wants to take her Promise . Her Promise Party usually takes place about six weeks after she has enrolled. New Brownies receive a Promise Badge and a certificate when they take their Promise.
The Brownie Law
A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a Good Turn every day.
The Brownie Special Saying (motto)
Lend A Hand.
The Brownie Programme
What do Brownies do? Well, Brownies have fun! They take part in indoor and outdoor activities that challenge them to do their best! Their meetings are action-packed and full of challenges, games and activities, usually ones that the Brownies have suggested themselves. Everything a Brownie does is a Brownie Adventure - it's a world of excitement, new interests and friends.
Brownies belong to a Pack and work in small groups called Sixes. This gives each girl a group of ready-made friends to take care of her. It also makes her feel that she belongs to something special.
Brownie Badges
One of the great things about being a Brownie is having lots of different badges to try! Brownie Packs do badges together, but Brownies can also attempt badges individually which suit their own personal interests, such as the musician, swimming and riding badges to name but a few.
Outings
Brownie meetings don’t always take place in the regular meeting place – on special occasions, Brownies go on trips and visits, for example to open air museums, fire stations, animal parks… often these trips are linked to doing a badge and are all part of the Brownie Adventure.
Pack Holidays
Many Brownie Packs go away on holiday, to camp or on an overnight sleepover. These adventures give the Brownies a chance to get to know each other better, as
well as grow in confidence and gain independence.
The Brownie Website
Brownies have their own website containing lots of fun activities:

Moving up to Guides
The “Adventure on” book is available to Brownies aged 9+, which helps the girls to look back over their time as a Brownie and prepare for moving up to Guides. A Guide will sometimes visit the Brownie Pack and talk to the girls who about to move up.
