Community Support Information

1st Gutersloh Scout Group
A word from the Group Scout Leader
Hi,
Welcome to what should hopefully be the first of our monthly newsletters where we hope to tell you of what’s happening within the group.

Welcome to the World Scout Jamboree On The Internet October 21./ 22.2006
Group Web Site
We have now started to get the Group web site up and running.
We hope that you find the information on it helpful, if there is anything in particular that you would wish to see on it please let me know.
Each of the Sections has there own web page where all sorts of useful information can be found.

Welcome to Troop News
The scouts are working hard on their preparation for the survival badge. They are busy trying to light fires and work out how to cook food without any utensils. They will complete the badge after a hike to their overnight stopping place, managing to sleep overnight and then hiking on towards their final destination. We wish them luck!
After half term the scouts will be starting the community group badge by clearing the area around the church at PRB
World Scout Jamboree 2007
The scout troop has two of its member selected to go to this once in a lifetime event. Next year to help celebrate 100 years of Scouting the jamboree is being held in Essex.
We also have the Scout Leader going as a contingent leader and another leader as International Support Team.
This however will cost the scouts £1,000. Therefore substantial fund raising is needed.
If anyone has any good ideas on how to help them raise this money please let the Scout Leader, Liz, know.
Welcome to the Pack Alert
Cubs have been sprucing up their areas at the moment, putting things in order for the new sixes.
We have all new Sixers and Seconders in each Six so we wish them all well and hope they enjoy the responsibility.
We also have some new faces in the Pack. A new helper and cubs.
Group Environment Award
The Group are working towards the Group Environment Award.
To complete this the Scouts are clearing out he church grounds on PRB and the Beavers and Cubs will go up and help plant flowers and decorate.
The aims of the Environmental Award are to:
- promote environmental awareness in young people
- promote activities between the Sections
- support the environmental focus in the Balanced Programme
- ensure there is a positive influence on everyone taking part
have a long-term benefit on sustainable development globally or locally
Leaders and Helpers
We are always on the look out foe more leaders and helpers.
As most of our leaders are military they are likely to deploy for months at a time.
This can leave the group short of supervision for the kids.
If anyone can spare an hour on a Monday night your help is always welcome.
We do not require people to make a regular commitment, every other week is good, or once a month helps if it can be sustained.
Speak to the Group Scout Leader for further information.
If you feel that you do not have the time to commit to Monday night regularly, then why not think of helping out more often as a Section Helper.
Section leaders are free to talk to any one who wishes to find out more information on helping out.
Welcome to the Colony Report
Just to let you know that we are enjoying all that is happening at the moment.
We have a full program of things for them to do and hope they are getting loads out of it all.
