Catterick Garrison is situated on the edge of the exquisite Yorkshire Dales and close to the delights of the North Yorkshire Moors. The sea is only an hour drive away, as is the beautiful Lake District. Also within an hour you can reach the bustling city of Newcastle, the Metro Centre at Gateshead and the historic cities of York and Leeds. Closer to Catterick are the market towns of Darlington, Richmond and Northallerton. Catterick Garrison itself also has lot to offer with further development plans including a new Sports and Leisure Centre. The Garrison is well supported with a variety of facilities within the Army Welfare Service community complex including the HIVE, free Internet Facilities (in HIVE), AFFEAS (Army Families Federation Employment Advisory Service), the NSPCC Almond Tree Project, Youth Clubs, Mother and Toddlers sessions and children’s activities hosted by Community Support. Outside the AWS complex are other facilities including two well used Community Centres hosting regular events - the White Rose Club which houses a ten pin bowling alley, and the Dalesman Community Centre which adjoins Soldier Sam’s adventure play centre. There is also a thrift shop, library, swimming pool and an 18-hole golf course. |
